My Mastermind Group and what it does for me.
Thirteen months ago I set out on a mission to create my own mastermind group. After leading more than 20 groups, and being part of 2 different groups, I knew there was nothing more powerful than a mastermind group. In fact, if you ask any successful entrepreneur, they will tell you the two most important things you need to move forward is:
1) A coach or mentor
2) A mastermind group
I get together on the phone with 7 of the most amazing, like-minded individuals once a week for an hour and I can tell you, there is nothing like 7 goal oriented, focused, mastermind partners keeping your feet to the fire and holding you accountable for what you set out to do the week before.
Life as an entrepreneur can be lonely, you may feel isolated and get the feeling that your friends just don’t “get you”, but when you are able to share, confide, brainstorm, ask questions, and seek solid feedback on an idea or problem – with not just one person, but 7, you create a power that you cannot put a price on.
My Mastermind Group and how it effects my focus.
The structure we have within our group allows me to focus on very specific, measurable, action-oriented, results and time dated objectives that are short term goals to be achieved in normally a 7-10 day time frame. Each of these goals is keeping me focused on what I can do today, to get me one step closer to that end result. By focusing on the short term goals, week in and week out, you are creating positive energy that encourages you to keep going, just that little bit extra so you are able to share that win with your mastermind group partners the following week. After all, we love to celebrate our victories.
I’ve had people ask me to join our mastermind group, but we limit it to 8. Why 8 you might ask? Well, 8 just seemed like a great number, I had seen groups that were larger, and a couple that were smaller but 8 was the number we went with.
In China the number 8 is considered extremely lucky. One reason is its unique symmetry, and another is the fact that the 8, laid on its side, resembles the Greek symbol for infinity. Additionally, in Mandarin Chinese, the sound byte for “eight” is close to that for “prosperity, wealth”, while in Cantonese it is similar to the sound byte for “fortune”. In my mind, 8 is OUR lucky number.
How my Mastermind Group effects my accountability.
As an entrepreneur we love the freedom and the flexibility of running our own business, and being completely in control of our time. After all, we are our own boss, right? This can also have its disadvantages. No one to report to on a daily, weekly or even monthly basis. No one to be accountable to. Well I can tell you, that being part of a mastermind group, I now have 7 of my mastermind group partners keeping me accountable. I do not want to let my group down, I am a woman of my word and when I tell them I am going to accomplish something in the next 7-10 days I need to do it. While Wednesday is the day that my mastermind group meets, Tuesday is the day that I am crossing the “t’s” and dotting all the “i’s” – I am accountable to them and they are accountable to me.
Napoleon Hill and what he thought of the Mastermind Group
Napoleon Hill’s book Think and Grow Rich, he states “A group of brains coordinated (or connected) in a spirit of harmony will provide more thought-energy than a single brain, just as a group of electric batteries will provide more energy than a single battery.” We know that each of us have infinite potential, and when you multiply that infinite potential 8 fold, you create miracles. You generate ideas you never dreamed possible, at least on your own.
If you are committed to take massive action in 2012, and you have made the decision to take your business to a brand new level, engage the power of a mastermind group, there really is no greater power to assist you in achieving your dreams.
How has a mastermind group helped YOU? What kind of results have you achieved from being part of a mastermind group? I would love to hear from you, please leave me a comment below, and we can chat more.
Hope you have enjoyed this post about my Mastermind Group.
